dhcpcd is a (crummy) DHCP server
It is an annoying piece of software because it gets in the way more than it helps. It also insists that you NOT EDIT THE NETWORK INTERFACES FILE /etc/network/interfaces. If you edit that file, it will pout and throw a fit and refuse to start, breaking all of your networking.
