Octave is an open-source implementation of [[Matlab]], named for Octave Levenspiel, a chemical engineering professor at Oregon State University (OSU).

You should install Octave as a binary using a package manager or by downloading from the Octave page directly.


I highly recommend using the binary.  Seems like every platform has some unusual quirk that causes Octave builds from source to fail.
